Dr. Elizabeth Rennick
MSW, DMA, LGSW
After a 25 year career as a professor of music and professional oboist, I know firsthand how anxiety provoking performing at a high level can be. I understand how nervewracking a big audition can be and how the days leading up to a big performance can sometimes feel like torture. I first became interested in performance anxiety because of my own struggles as an oboist, but I quickly became known for my work as an instructor helping double-reed students conquer their fears and achieve their goals.
Although I taught my first class in performance anxiety management over 20 years ago, I went on obtain my masters in social work to bring evidence-based strategies from the world of clinical mental health to musicians and other performing artists. I am passionate about combining my clinical training with my deep knowledge of the music world to help musicians learn to manage their anxiety and achieve their goals.
Outside of the therapy room, I teach double-reeds, music appreciation, and woodwind methods at the University of Louisiana. Previously I was tenured associate professor of oboe at Eastern Kentucky University where I received the Golden Apple Award- a student selected award for excellence in teaching. I holds degrees from Brigham Young University (BM) (MM) and the University of Iowa (DMA) as well as a MSW with a certificate in clinical social work from the University of Kentucky.
As an oboist, I been an invited performer at multiple conferences of the International Double Reed Society. I am the director of a community music camp each summer and enjoy making reeds and teaching students to make reeds.
